GREENCITIZEN FACTS AND STATS

Source: Jack Walshe
GreenCitizen’s first recycling center was opened in Palo Alto, California on Earth Day, April 22, 2005. Since that time, we’ve helped thousands of visitors do the right thing in recycling their unwanted electronics responsibly.

We’ve processed over 50,000 individual electronics units and—thanks to our Total Accountability Management System—we can track each and every unit according to make, model, serial number and year of manufacture –from the time we receive it to the time it is properly disposed of.

Want to know …
What the average lifespan of an inkjet printer is?
The average age of the TV monitors we recycle?
How many laptops we get and which models?
Curious about which items are recycled most frequently?
Just ask us! We have the answers.

Through the recycling efforts of our customers, in one short year we’ve diverted 1.5 million pounds of e-waste from landfills here and from being exported as trash to developing countries.

Our Silicon Valley and San Francisco Centers get several hundred visitors each week, totaling to more than 25,000 concerned customers helping to preserve our environment in the last year. Of those, over 60% are return customers and 30% are referrals from friends and family.

Over 550 environmentally conscious businesses have used GreenCitizen’s Business Pick-Up Service to safely recycle their end-of-life electronics.

We've extended the ease and convenience of recycling with GreenCitizen by providing recycling kiosks for small items currently in-store at Palo Alto Ace Hardware, and Ocean Shore Hardware in Half Moon Bay. Kiosk locations are expanding to your workplace! We have kiosks in the Mills Building and Post Montgomery Center in downtown San Francisco.

And we’ve helped spread the word in our community with on-site visits from dozens of local schools and youth groups, participation in corporate environmental health and safety fairs, local environmental efforts and special promotional activities for environmental groups like ACTERRA. Check out our Events page for a list of educational and environmental activities we’ve supported.
